US Naval Academy

Physically fit, mentally strong, dedicated, patriotic. All characteristics one would use to describe midshipman at the US Naval Academy. Getting in is tough; students must have strong academic achievement, demonstrated leadership skills and a recommendation from a Congressman or Senator. 19,000 applied this year, ~1200 were accepted.     Canons boom. The races begin. We sit atop Tivoli on the boat deck enjoying the cool evening and watching the Wednesday night races. J-boats of all sizes, multiple classes, race around the marks placed on the Severn River Inlet. Spinnakers fly and boats speed around the course in tight clusters.     As …
