Pride II

We are sitting on the boat deck watching the sun set (as we are prone to do) when the topsail schooner Pride of Baltimore sails into the harbor. I race to get my camera and take this fuzzy photo before she passes out of view. Her main topsail and mizzen course sails have been furled. The crew is on the foredeck preparing to lower the jib and staysails, continuing to reduce boat speed as she approaches the harbor.

Pride II was launched in 1983, a replacement for the original Pride, a replica of a 1812-era Baltimore Clipper that was sunk near Puerto Rico in a white squall with the loss of the captain and 3 crew. Since its launch the 109-foot Pride II has traveled the world serving as an ambassador for the city (see www.pride2.org).

Nice way to end another day aboard Tivoli.
