Tis The Season

Happy Holidays friends and family!

Tivoli is snug at Old Port Cove in North Palm Beach FL over the holidays. Though it is a challenging time to get anything done on the boat, we generally use our time here to catch up on annual maintenance tasks and upgrades. Patience is a necessity and I’m generally a bit short on that virtue. We haul out next week to replace our dripless shaft seal (it is dripping and additional compression on the bellows doesn’t stop the drip) and check the condition of the prop, shaft, cutlass bearing, line cutter, bottom paint, thruster props, wing prop, etc. We had a few gelcoat scratches repaired and the teak varnish touched up. I’ve replaced our SiriusXM weather module (the original failed) and updated charts and navigation software. We pulled up the carpet in the master and guest staterooms to reveal the beautiful teak floors and are replacing the salon carpet; it was time. We’ve also spent time catching up on paperwork and further organizing the ship’s equipment manuals. All manuals are neatly stowed in 3-ring binders and are immediately accessible in the pilothouse. Oil changes are due on the Lugger and transmission. Lastly, our inverter/charger has insufficient output to recharge our house bank in a reasonable time. To reduce generator runtime we are installing an auxiliary 100 Amp battery charger. The biggest challenge with that will be pulling the power cables from the pilothouse AC distribution panel to the engine room. Nothing is easy on a boat.

Our cruising plans are tentative but we hope to run down to the Turks & Caicos for a month or so this winter. In the spring we hope to leave Lake Worth for Bermuda and spend the month of June there to see the island and enjoy some of the 2017 America’s Cup activities, then run north to Halifax, NS in July. We plan to join a group of Nordhavn’s cruising the Bra d’Or Lakes region of Nova Scotia; cross over to Newfoundland to explore the south coast’s fiords; then west to the Madeleine Islands before returning to Nova Scotia and heading south for the winter.

May all your dreams come true in 2017!
